We argue our point
this way and that,
while I stand on one side
of a door I swing shut.
We talk through our walls
not seeing each other,
til’ our viewpoint seems clear –
no way there’s another.
We see our one side, so
we type and we fight,
and forget that just maybe
we might not be right.
We forget to read
and think critically
and we also forget
it’s not binary.
To see black and white
is to forget the whole point:
the world is a spectrum,
different, not disjoint.
If there’s one thing now
on which all can agree,
we want our world well,
and for prosperity.
So leave behind pitchforks,
set down your torches,
and let’s share our difference
and celebrate fortunes.
Let’s halt words of cruelty,
and remember the face
behind each tiny screen
is a heart in its place.
