(To be sung in your head like the classic Christmas song, “Winter Wonderland”)
Bike bells ring,
are you listening?
In the rain,
cheese wheels are glistening,
a mooi prachtig night,
tall ones are out tonight,
walking in a kerstmis Netherlands.
by the strong winds,
Here to stay,
in these flat lands.
We sing a Dutch song,
as we pedal on,
biking in this blond-haired, Dutch-filled land.
In the canals we can’t build a snowman,
because there is no snow in Nederlands.
They’ll say, are you Dutch? We’ll say, “nee man,”
And they’ll say “have a plate of bitterballen”
Later on, we’ll feel tired,
’cause all this food’s
cooked in the fryer,
We face, unafraid,
all those sweet poffertjes,
biking in a winter Netherlands.
