She to friendship as me to not,
Yet open armed she took to me
and made me a best friend.
The energy was more than I knew
to expect. She was a friend—I’d
never known quite the same. Weird
like I was, but more adventurous.
One day: “let’s invent something”,
“Let’s start a business”,
“Let’s make a movie”,
“Let’s build a fort”.
We did all of that and realized
we, girls and entrepreneurs, could
try anything. We could dream up the
world and see it all. We could be
whatever adventure we wanted.
And we did.
But the world is not always what we hope
and reality meets childhood expectation.
We grew up, and moved, and
the two diverging paths diverged
further and more until,
aged, and years immersed in very
different things meant nostalgia
and remembered friendship,
but the days themselves were gone.
Now, I can’t remember quite the re-creation of it.
